Invisalign clear aligners have become known and popular as an alternative to braces. They are clear trays (similar in look to whitening trays) that are worn instead of braces in order to straighten teeth.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a name for a system of clear trays that are custom made for your teeth and worn over time to gradually move teeth to ideal position.
As you wear each aligner tray, your teeth teeth gradually move, week to week, with the comfort of control since you are able to remove the trays when needed and don’t have to wear braces in order to get that beautiful smile you always wanted.
Benefits of Clear Aligners
Invisalign or other types of clear aligners have numerous benefits for people who don’t want to wear braces:
- they are easily removed for eating and drinking
- easily removed for brushing and flossing
- comfortable and custom-made for you
- covered by many insurance plans (coverage is usually same as braces)
- no need for emergency visits to your dentist due to broken brackets or wires
Disadvantage of Invisalign or Clear Aligners
The most common issue with Invisalign or clear aligners is compliance. Basically, if you don’t wear them, they don’t work. So you need to commit to wearing your trays as much as possible (ideally all the time other than when eating or brushing your teeth) in order to get the best results.
The other issue is losing your trays. If you do lose your Invisalign or clear aligner tray, don’t stress. Call your dentist or orthodontist to have a new one made and wear the previous one in the meantime.
