How to never suffer from migraines again

Painful Headache | Smiles By Bis

“I first started having pain in my face, and around my jaw joint, around 25 years ago.  It got worse, and then I got migraines, and these got so bad, I would hide in my closet since light of any kind made the migraines worse.  I couldn’t work, my husband felt helpless, and I missed out on many activities with my kids.  I went to so many doctors and specialists.  And all anyone could do is give me pain medication, but that didn’t work.  Then one of my doctors told me he heard of Dr. Bis, a dentist in Oakville, who has been successful at treating migraines and TMJ issues.  So I called to schedule a consultation.  Thanks to Dr. Bis, I have not had a migraine in over 4 years!  I could not have imagined this type of result.  I will be forever grateful…”

What most people don’t realize is that, despite the fact that a migraine is felt at the top or side of your head, it actually starts at the bottom of your skull.  This is where the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) resides, and is connected by muscles to your skull.  In many cases, a misaligned bite, or grinding or clenching your teeth, can result in the TMJ shifting into a pathologic position, causing many different symptoms.  These often include:

  • Migraines
  • Facial pain
  • Jaw joint pain
  • Headaches in many areas of the head or neck
  • Changes in posture
  • A bite that feels “off”
  • Deviation of the jaw to one side
  • Ringing in the ears, ear pain, ear congestion
  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Tingling in fingers or hands

A migraine, which often feels like throbbing pain, and cause you to become temporarily sensitive to light, sound, and smell, is most often managed with medications.  But what many people don’t realize is that, in many cases, it can be permanently treated and resolved by correcting the way your teeth come together and align.  Correcting the bite, and allowing the jaw joint to rest in a comfortable place, not only results in elimination of pain, but prevents you from constantly relying on drugs that can have long-term effects on your heart or liver.

If you suffer from migraines, or other TMJ related issues, call Dr. Bis and schedule a consultation.
