COVID-19 Update: What We Know About Re-opening To Help With Your Dental Needs
We have received some more information from our Regulatory Body regarding the changes required before we return to our office. We still don’t have an actual date as to when we can re-open, however, as information comes available, I will be updating you as I learn more.
The health and safety of patients, the public and practitioners is our top priority. The following are changes that are being introduced to manage and mitigate risk and reduce exposure:
1. Significant PPE Requirements
Due to significant changes to Personal Protective Equipment, our staff will be following the guidelines of PPE as per the Ministry of Health, which may include the following:
- N-95 mask
- Isolation gown
- Gloves
- Eye protection
- Face shield
- Other barriers in the treatment room
This is what I will look like when you do come into the office
2. Significant Changes to Office Design
To further minimize risk, the Ministry of Health is requiring revisions to waiting room design and patient amenities. These changes are being implemented, including flooring, sealed doors on treatment rooms, Air Filtration Systems, significant changes to our reception area, all of which I am in the process of developing and modifying, and I will keep you posted as to progress.
3. Physical Distancing Protocols
We are asked to practice physical distancing and implement new office visit and patient protocols in order to successfully reduce COVID-19 risks. These include changes to appointment scheduling (using strictly digital means), as well as limiting interaction with multiple staff members. As a result, we are switching to an online platform to manage paperwork, written consent, post-treatment instructions, and remote billing and invoicing. This will allow us to better serve our patients when it comes to any forms or paperwork previously handled in the office, and give you access to the information you need for your appointment, prior to coming in. As we re-open our office and begin scheduling appointments, you will receive an email with more information regarding your specific appointment and treatment scheduled. All confidential documentation will be managed through DocuSign, to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and security.
4. COVID-19 Screening
Pre-appointment screening through a questionnaire will be implemented prior to scheduling an appointment, and again carried out when you come in for your appointment. We will be taking your temperature and asking you to disinfect your hands and put on a mask.
5. While in Treatment Room
Patients are asked to avoid physical contact or hand-shaking, as well as remain in the room once seated. If you need to use the washroom, please do so before coming in, if at all possible.
